Biography

The Angel of Australia

André Rieu describes her as “The Angel of Australia” and having travelled and performed in major venues all over the world with André and his orchestra, he would know!

With over 10 million hits on youtube for her performance of Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’, it is no surprise that the world is also using the term ‘Angel of Australia’ when referring to Mirusia.

Mirusia is living the life that she has always dreamed of. During her five years with André Rieu she recorded two ‘number one’ albums in Australia as well as a Platinum DVD.

In May 2008 she released the CD 'Waltzing Matilda' which went platinum within 10 days and stayed at the number one position on the Australian Pop Charts for three consecutive weeks. This recording was the first time André had ever collaborated with another artist and was released as a tribute to the many dedicated fans in Australia.

In 2010 André Rieu presented Mirusia in her first international solo release 'Always & Forever' - a CD that quickly went platinum and stayed at the number one chart position in Australia for 4 weeks. A DVD quickly followed and it too went straight to the top position on the ARIA charts, earning Mirusia an Aria #1 Chart Award in 2012. The only Classical artist to do so.

In June 2006, Mirusia was announced as the youngest ever winner of the prestigious 'Dame Joan Sutherland Opera Award'.  That year she also received numerous scholarships and bursaries for her outstanding recitals at the QLD Conservatorium of Music including the ‘Elizabeth Muir Memorial Prize’, ‘Brisbane Womens Club’ and ‘Margaret Haysom Bursaries’, and the ‘Linda Edith Allen Scholarship’ (two times!).

In 2008, Mirusia played a major role in André Rieu's, ‘World Stadium Tour’, which even took her back to her home country of Australia. ‘The World Stadium Tour’ broke all the world records as the largest set, cast and crew to ever tour in the history of the music industry.

Mirusia is a Brisbane born and based soprano and has already enjoyed many successes so far in her career. She has performed in many countries all over the world including The Netherlands, England, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, The United States of America, Canada, Mexico, Japan, France and Belgium.

Some other highlights in her career include: 'Redlands Young Citizen of the Year 2004', the first winner ever of the ‘Redlands Eisteddfods Aria Competition‘, ‘Redlands Eisteddfod Aggregate Award’ and the winner of the 2005 ‘Spring Festival Talent Quest’. She was also chosen as the ‘Young Talent’ on the 2005 ‘Golden Casket Lord Mayors Christmas Carols’, which was televised on QLD’s Channel 7.

Ambassador

Australian Children's Music Foundation

Mirusia has been an ambassador of the Australian Children's Music Foundation (ACMF) since 2009. After meeting  Don Spencer, (her childhood idol, and the founder and CEO of the ACMF) in 2008, Mirusia started to support and become involved in their activities. Their vision is to use the power of music to inspire and enrich the lives of all Australian children and youth, particularly the disadvantaged and the indigenous.

Mirusia believes strongly that if children are exposed to music or are involved in music, they will grow up to be better human beings. In 2009, she participated in "Duetting it for the Kids' a concert to raise funds for the ACMF, which raised $100,000 for music in schools in Australia. in 2012, Mirusia returned back to Australia just in time to join 'Duets 2012', which again raised much needed funds for the ACMF. In 2013 Mirusia is focusing on working closely with Don Spencer to help raise more awareness for this wonderful cause.
